boom merchant follows up last years hugely successful *stars/green symphony* with another perfect balance of rhythmic and melodic elements. *surge* is a track that always generates a huge reaction, built around a tight groove with plenty of action in the low end. it is literally smeared with electrical charge and doused in layers of harmonic goodness.

after debuting earlier this year on a collaborative split with max_m for parachute records, italian producer wrong assessment lands on m_rec ltd with his very own 12. disillusionment is a tightly programmed techno tool packed with groove. there’s a warm and almost melodic bass line here, clearly indebted to the detroit groove, but darkened as it has become custom with italian producers and their sound. the loops that develop around it are of the hypnotic kind… the sound that recently made m_rec ltd label of the month on resident advisor. parachute affiliate cw/a (already involved in clockwork and avatism) delivers a prime time remix that transform the original into an aggressive techno anthem. playing intelligently with the elements of the original, the remix delineates a very interesting narrative as it fluctuates between harshness, funk and psychedelia. expect major playtime. on the flip side, ‘persecutory beliefs’ is basically a tribute to all proper techno dancefloors. with tension and tightness, the track revolves around a forward driving ravey refrain perfected for those late night sessions. closing the ep, ‘inner turmoil’ follows a similar path, but gets druggier and more crepuscular as it evolves. like throughout the entire ep, there’s a love for proper 90s techno at play here. dark stuff for late, late nights. is it clear that max_m and his label m_rec ltd have discovered major talent in wrong assessment. expect more great things throughout 2015.

klik records is proud to welcome a new addition to its roster, 9west. the 9west project made its first steps back in 1998 in thessaloniki, greece, by two music lovers above all, tikis and george. they both love the deeper side of things with many jazz and soul elements, maintaining a raw and kicking sound. their free of crippling nostalgia music wins you over with consistency, tension, and dynamics as well as a sensibility, one would usually expect from house music. 9west pursues an unexacting fusion of quantum jumps and tradition - including effortless melodies and hook lines.

introducing damien zala... the next promising young frenchman to release on hold youth. although relatively unknown, his first album *lonely happiness* received strong support from theo parrish, norm talley and luke hess amongst others. combining analogue synths and drum-machines with acoustic elements and samples from old records, the trained sound engineer is a rigorous technician aiming to create sophisticated deep house atmospheres. hold youth provide a breeding ground for open-minded and innovative music, and zalas second life ep ticks all the right boxes. exploring sounds from a broad spectrum, *ms blue* is the moody opener that creates a melange of raw minimal jazz, while the b side continues in this vein with more of an obvious off-key german micro house influence. *considered done* references the late herbie hancock, sampling his voice over a flowing piano melody and punchy bass line, while *tribute to willy simon* goes all out funky, full of brass, with a classic hip hop swagger.

opener -she loves it- layers graceful elements, drifting sounds, pirouetting percussion and lets them slowly roll in like a thick fog. bvoice,anrilov & sickdisco deliver a more minimalistic version of -she loves it-. this guys are a great trio from moscow, analog gurus, already released on pro-tez, highway, time has changed, body parts. on the other side we have another piece of material from kirik called somewhere, which does the same job with similar elements. its melodious drum loop is the fulcrum around which densely layered hi-hats, shakers and various pads bounce and rotate. label boss, dirty culture deliver a more driven house version of somewhere, a more digestiv aproach. good vibes and melodic grooves from eastern europe, on wax!

our first release for 2015 comes from chicagoan, area. his previous releases on various labels including his own, kimochi, show a producer who spans many genres while maintaining a particular aesthetic. this untethered approach has lead to *one less me* — one of his most moving records to date. area has melded elements from bass music, industrial, electroacoustic, spoken-word and techno into 3 tracks that distill their influences into something greater than the sum of its parts.

the caky music sounds like lusty melodic elements on a suspenseful beaty framework, or how they call it: like lechery . side b is literally packed with miro pajic! the remix from the berlin-based lazerslut, who also releases on magda s items & things, uses almost full capacity of the vinyl record length and strikes with a 12-minutes journey of dirty grooves. on a percussive pajic-like setting, he finds his unique way of lechery with an apparently neverending buildup which turns into some epic moments.

manchester producer hidden spheres blends the interesting elements he finds within recordings into soulful dance music suited for clubs and the living room. those influences combine jazz artists like sun ra, john coltrane, the art ensemble of chicago, and miles davis along with the modern sounds of detroit and german producers. having released individual tracks on dirt crew his first solo ep appropriately finds its way to moods & grooves, a label known its eclectic output. the bloos connects the musical dots of his influences while expressing a love for house music.

following gary becks hard-hitting remix of dj rush >she is fine< on bek014, he returns with an ep of solely his own productions. >rascal< brings forward two of his biggest tracks in recent times. the title track, >rascal< returns to garys more familiar sound with swelling pads andsynths clad in fading loops and textures. the track varies in intensity but maintains the groove, as it balances a peak time feel with an almost reflective ambiance. >video siren< is stripped and straight-up techno. it avoids over-complication by keeping the elements to an absolute minimum, highlighting his ability to create atmosphere, tension and drive, using a less is more attitude.

as we move into a new year, again start the cogs of labels and artists around the world, this is certainly the case for disc over music as they bring us their first release of 2015. high off the back of exquisite releases in 2014 from luca lozano & mr. ho and nicson, disc over’s first installment of 2015 comes from label head tim green - a three track ep bursting with two classic tg productions and grooves which is then given another dimension with a remix from the talented german born producer borrowed identity. the ep kicks off with the aptly named ‘scar’ - a track which when heard, truly makes it mark. it sets the tone for the rest of the ep with it’s prominent bassline and haunting howls whilst dreamlike keys bounce and float above. track two, ‘we thought’ is taken down a gear but keeps all of the groove built from ‘scar’. it begins with a simple trademark tg bassline and is allied with light and free singular keys. the listener is then joined by vocals which along with the previous elements take you on a real trip. borrowed identity speeds things up right away with his remix of ‘we thought’. the track is morphed into a dancefloor groove with the comforting vocals darkened, cut and reworked on top of an unpredictable and fluctuating bassline. managing to keep the identity of tim’s original the track becomes something completely different and certainly makes you feel you want to take the trip

the roger ep consists in 2 tracks, delivered by the production team-up vlad radu, martin glowacz and nils weimann, with an additional remix by michael melchner. all three tracks are different in terms of structure and harmonic elements, everything being combined in such a way that music can be enjoyed at home or on the dancefloor

veleno viola is the continuation of violet poison records after the end of violetshaped project. keeping the continuity with the concept started with vpn, veleno viola differentiates itself for a more diy and post – punk and less dance approach, with the use of vocal elements, strongly influenced by the industrial 80s, the minimal-wave, ebm minimalist and cyberpunk of the early 90s in a fetish and s & m context. *absence generator*, the first release, is characterized by an abnormal sound, hybrid, dirty and suffering. pressing on solid white marbled vinyl.

from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. it is loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts.
wd37 broadway kiss showcases the hair-split-contrast in our disco genre. 4 songs so good, they all deserve equal attention, pontchartrain delivers, lifesaver, an immaculate distillation of house and disco fused, buffed and polished. on the inside, osmose has bottled pure disco fire with broadway kiss, a perfect party starter for any warehouse with disco leanings.
flipping to the aa, seasoned jock, derek kaye has reworked holding on and in the process landed it (and a few others!) in greg wilsons top edits of 2014 chart. by now, you must know that we are very fond of a bit of cheese in our whiskey… rulefinn sidesteps the usual elements of la biondas i got your number to focus on the slick guitar, while retaining the vocals until the end for optimal impact.
after listening to this ep, you will feel like you have been kissed all over.

the get serious boys strike again, this time on the i m in love main serie. and for this ep they have teamed up with federico alfieri to show us a deeper musical approach, more focused on dub. *aire* on the a-side comes with a danceable rhythm and a bleak atmosphere, created by magnificent dub elements. on the flip we have another dark, dubby bomb, perfectly fitting on every afterhour. it also strongly represents our musical intention by drawing the connection to the labels first release.

argentina has a rich history when it comes to dance music and gonzalo solimano is one of the countrys finest electronic flag-bearers. with his unlock recordings imprint he has created a heavy back-catalogue that the likes of barem, guti, luca m and daniel sanchez have all contributed to. after a short break solimano is back with his *factor h* ep and the original mix is a tropical, cow bell laden treat, one that sums up the nation’s sound nicely. on remix duty is both fase and fellow argentinian maestro guti. the producers last full-length was the jazz-inspired *rompecorazones* and now a remix lp is set to follow but here we focus on his amazing edit of *factor h*. guti has maintained the percussive elements of the original but added a significant amount of groove and focused on adding in thick kick drums and more drive. it is one you can imagine on the terraces or at 4am in a darkened room and this is why guti is such a don. pressing on green marbled vinyl)

2nd part. after a year spent perfecting the sound and style of his latest project, andrea fiorito makes his highly-anticipated return to cynosure recordings with voodoo grooves, the first of a two part ep that fuses funk, dub, and minimal with elements of analog house music straight from the new york city underground. inspired by a recent pilgrimage to south america, voodoo grooves borrows the sounds of the amazon, the flavour of cuban santeria, and the spirit of the rainforest in its warm, grounded basslines and hypnotic loops.

early support from raresh, fred p. julietta, dana ruh!! after a first year of spellbinding releases, sol asylum returns in 2015 with a fresh various artist’s compilation featuring three finely crafted tracks from the sol asylum crew to kick-start the labels second year. bringing together a family of artists who have been there since the very beginning. starting off with the odd boys danny and damian, we go all the way back to the first release with a brand new remix of broken spell. whisking us away to a parallel universe of this odyssey, this remix is masterly conjured into a percussive exploration of the planet of odd. following the odd ones, julie marghilano unleashes another side of sol asylum with dragon drops. she unveils her known atmospheric soundscapes but with a heavily detailed rhythmic twist, made by experimenting with her field recordings to create a more stripped down sound that shows her range and versatility. last but certainly not least, miss jools calima brings the ep to a triumphant closure like a mystical fog. the elements of the track melt into drowning synths with crackling percussion and the elegantly designed grooves that levitate us steadily through the hypnotic melodies. the percussive strength of each track, while still being diverse links this collaboration of like-minded family members together as a cohesive potion.

midgar is proud to introduce a newcomer for the third release. a great debut for the maltese cloned, delivering not less than 4 cuts with sapphire 1990 e.p. the record, way more straightforward and groove centered than the previous midgar outputs, opens with sapphire 1990, track that sounds like very nostalgic memories from a timeless rave. thanks to a genuine simplicity and the great arrangement of its elements, this first cut has the perfect characteristics to become a dancefloor anthem. on the same side, a live out-take from cloned’s repertory, the pendulum swinging synth-lines which dominate pretty direct rhythmics filled with hi-hats and claps over a costant background noise. belgassem as the first cut on the b side, is an absolutely heavy one for the label’s standards, made of deep kickin’ drums and haunting voices empowered by a really strong and obsessive acid-line. closing the vinyl, the slow (and again really acidic) submerging is like a lysergic vessel headed to more comfortable dimensions, where groovy drums are embraced by very bright heavenly pads. sudden death is instead a chilled-out broken beat interrupted by confused speeches and detroitish pads, resulting as a modern ritual of ascension towards higher spheres. corel drives the release to the end, recalling most of its main features: a restless run through misty soundscapes along a path studded of bells and overwhelming, sharp hi-hats.

recent output has seen dorisburg pushing into deeper realms. computer drumming are some further steps in these explorations of 4/4 rhythms and acoustic depth. with a wide range in tempo, the track titles offers aid for the venturous. a1 is a reduced jam of echoing percussion that never sees the entry of a kick drum. a2 compensates with bouncing bass and a playful array of drumming elements entering and dropping off in a bold tempo. exiting on a more well established pulse, the b side consists of the deepest and most mysterious offering from dorisburg to date. distant bells and chimes and a grand formation of percussion meets thundering bass in an encounter set on vast grounds.

berlin-based repitch artist gaja runs ophism, a label oriented to raw industrial inspired techno. modern urban and suburban views are composed by monotonous, repetitive sequences and simple elements, focused on the mechanical landscape of factories, warehouses and assembly lines. concept behind could be the translation of the urban sprawl in music. gaja provides full improvisation and finally the new protagonists are the machines: their cold steady rhythms, their screeching metallic noises, their symphony of inarticulate patterns.

nail provides the lead track for fofs latest vinyl only excursion - originally produced in the same time period as the classic tracks on the ode rammel reissue ep earlier in the year, glazed lay dormant on one of nails dats for many years before being rediscovered and given its first airing now on fof. chunky roughed up house beats are the order of the day here, a real peak time groove. new talent harry mccanna, resident at londons infamous undersound nights, debuts with act 1, a beautifully subtle bassline driven groove that rises above the pack with its super warm pad lending the track a warm and fuzzy hypnotic edge. romanian talent zece kicks off the flipside with the most contemporary offering, a breakbeat laden groove with a fx laden vocal snatch underpinned by that all important b-line whilst sonodab rounds things off with a beautifully deep and melodic slice of electro on brown study, the percussive elements giving rise to a hazy melodic pattern for those early hour excursions.

arsat is the first argentinian telecom satellite launched into orbit. arsat gets the rocket ready to ignition: a repeated stabs loop manages the take-off with success. on remix duties, up-and-coming argentinian talent julixo delivers a jacking chicago-style interpretation of arsat. with beltran, the rocket starts its launch into space: although fast paced, the track brings some harmonious dubby elements and nice violins in the mix to calm down the expecting crowd: it s all going to be ok. formula ends the e.p. like a celebration of the satellite s geostationnary slot: a hard hitting, percussion driven, techno track where the stabs penetrate deep under your skin. not for the faint hearted!

our next big release at bad barbie, going out on digital and 12 inch, comes by the hand of aldo cadiz itself, but this time partnered with kareem cali. these two made a fantastic three track ep called monita ep. the first track monita presents a solid base created with a classic tech style and an extremely groovy bass line. full of small arrangements and a crazy vocal line, this tracks its perfect for any club dj. the second track bonita, is the one with the more old school vibe, from the bass line to the main acid synth, which goes evolving softly with a filter during the track to generate the needed tension. all this with a strong tech groove to follow the step of this solid ambience created by the acid synths. the last track moni, also has many techno and acid elements presents. we can perceive the techno soul mainly on the arrangement of the hi-hats and bass line, but the acid synth in triplet at the backend is what generates the crazy vibe and almost hypnotic feeling during the track, playing around with the volume of it. definitely a fantastic release to add to any collection.

arturo garces, our brother from the west coast, returns to robsoul with his looking for strangers ep. loved by the robsoul community for his beats from the streets series, the san jose resident first appeared on the label back in 2012 with a trio of tracks that made up vol.1. two more collections followed and firmly established arturo as one of the labels most exciting talents. a label boss himself, arturo is seen as having helped define what is known as the silicon valley sound. his own blend of beat-laden house infused with elements of soul, funk and disco has seen him become a favourite with the likes of sneak, farina and weeks.
looking for strangers opens with the latin guitar licks of the title track before we are treated to the deeper jackin vibes and delicious chords of bassment beat. the vicious kick drum of no fool leads us on the flip, with its awesome stabs of soul. in motion featuring the subtle and sultry vocals of silencia closes the ep with its twisted filters and bass-heavy beats.

vancouver outfit 1800haightstreet finally debut with a raucous four-track excursion for the lobster theremin black label series, aptly titled the pursuit . over four slices of heat-seeking techno the canadian trio build epic waves of anticipation and angst, whilst simultaneously cultivating the softer elements to create warm, enveloping textures.
